My thoughts on Sky's Bomb Survival
Let's get this started with the obvious; if you don't know what SKBS is, it's a Roblox fangame of Polyhex's Super Bomb Survival, where you're put in a map and you have to survive bombs falling from the sky.
Before I talk about everything that's annoying with this game, let me talk about the positives. It's only fair that I do so and put my bias aside. One thing that's fun about this game is the addition of chaos events. These, much like regular events, change up how the round is. Examples being random objects falling from the sky, losing your arms, supercharging your skills, raining or a downpour, and time speeding up. Shinies (not gems, to not confuse you) also can incentivize exploring the lower layers of the map, letting players explore further for more rewards, with the risk increasing as different kinds of enemies appear the deeper you descend, which segues into my next positive. Maps are much, much more deeper than Super Bomb Survival, as going underground has a full-on cave system, complete with shinies for you to mine if you have the pickaxe and chests for you to find nice loot inside, like some extra perks or money. Although again, the deeper you descend, the more riskier it gets, with anomalies that appear from the terrain. Example? There's a bomb where you have to look away from it, otherwise it will explode after a bit and turn half your HP into cursed HP, which can't be recovered by normal means. Going underground, you can find not only chests but also these large geodes that take stronger skills to break open to get its rewards. A supercharged bomb or pickaxe will greatly help in getting inside the geodes faster. There's Chaotic Beans in the game too.
because chaotic bean
in life you have the bean
the little bouncy little bweembs full of silly energy
plus in chaotic bean simulator there's a minigame you can play that's literally super bomb survival but it's super bean survival and that's like the cherry on top
You have a skill that lets you toss a bunch of Chaotic Beans for no reason, and a perk that lets you spawn into a round as a Chaotic Bean, but be prepared for its drawbacks. The music in Sky's Bomb Survival is also nice, giving it a little techno spin on the SBS soundtrack. Bomb variety in the game is double-edged but I'll touch on that later. On the positive side, you have a bomb type that can heal you, plus little jump pads that can propel you upwards. There's these little green missiles that bounce you away upon contact, and they barely leave a scratch, so they can be used to your advantage.
Now let's talk about the negatives about Sky's Bomb Survival, and oh boy do I have a LOT to say about this. The fact that the bomb variety is vast in this game also paves way for bombs and other explosives that are just really annoying. Remember what I said about the green bouncy missile? Yeah, well all missiles in this game compared to SBS can barely be outrunned and can be really overwhelming in higher difficulties, as they lock on you like a predator waiting to ambush their unsuspecting prey. Events like dragon missiles or entities from a deeper layer of the map called Otherside also make playing this game really frustrating if you want to survive, as quite literally almost every Otherside bomb is locked on you. I swear to god the Unseen perk in this game used to be really good during the beta of SKBS, but an update later nerfed this so now even if you have Unseen equipped in a round, it barely helps you out as Otherside is just as rabid as if you didn't have it equipped. Shinies in this game aren't like coins or gems, and the moment you die in a round, you lose all the shinies you've collected in the round, which sucks as this also ties into unlocking more skills and perks in the shop for you to buy with coins. Speaking of skills and perks, there's a gamepass that lets you equip TWO skills instead of one, and if you want a better chance at surviving higher difficulties, get this and the double perk pass from SBS. Trust me, it's a pain in the ass to survive in SKBS with just one of both. You know how I was talking about higher difficulties? I wasn't kidding when difficulties are absolute insanity. If you're an inexperienced SKBS player and/or you only have one of both skills and perks, you'll find yourself dying over and over from all sorts of attacks with barely any room to defend yourself. If the difficulty is 10, haha you better have equipped the incorporeal perk, otherwise everything literally will kill you in five seconds. 10 difficulty is literally unsurvivable, you're just better off resetting if you didn't make it to the AFK spot in the lobby. Don't bother going for shinies either UNLESS you're a ghost. Be careful of the Otherside chaos event, as the lava down there will insta-kill you regardless if you left your body or not. Lighting in the maps is also an issue. Some maps are way too bright to even discern what terrain you can stand on and what will hurt you. Maps that have a beach theme tied to it suffer from lighting issues the most, as it's like you've been flashbanged in front of you. Some maps can also be a bit too foggy or dark to even see where you're going. Even if you've picked up a bunch of glow sticks and light bulbs in the round, the fog is still there. Even when I have this game set to lights out in the settings, the game is still way too bright.
If you just scrolled down here to the footnote then to make this short, Sky's Bomb Survival is a fun spin on the SBS formula, adding tons of new skills, perks, events, and other things to make this more jam packed, but SKBS also suffers from the same fate as Survive The Disasters Reborn (made by ItsTrixis on Roblox), which is a lack of balance for numerous components of the game, and not a good chance of consistently being able to survive on higher difficulties. Shinies can be a major turn-off to people who've collected a bunch of them but have died in a round as the timer gets really close to zero, which can be a bummer as they're tied to unlocking more of the shop's skills and perks as the game progresses. Lighting can also be a hassle for those who prefer a calm and dim setting, as maps illuminate themselves way too much to even tell where you're going, which can hurt the eyes if you prefer dark mode like me, even when your monitor is set to as dim as it can be. Inexperienced players who may have not played the original Super Bomb Survival will have a hard time taking their first step into this jam-packed chaotic version of the SBS formula. Having an extra skill and perk can definitely help you a lot with enduring the chaos.
Should my thoughts on SKBS stop you from playing it though? No. It shouldn't and should never. If you like a more challenging and chaotic version of Super Bomb Survival, or you just want more SBS action and Polyhex's game isn't doing much for you, Sky's Bomb Survival might be up your alley. Do be prepared for one hell of a ride though, it can be quite bumpy on the road.
My personal rating of Sky's Bomb Survival? 6.7 Chaotic Beans out of 10; it's getting there but still kind of rocky. Definitely look into balancing some mechanics and buffing the unseen perk back to its former power. If you wanna play Sky's Bomb Survival, you can check it out here.
